Snowy conditions cause several interstate accidents

Though the weather may not have turned into a blizzard Tuesday, road conditions were icy enough to cause several accidents in the area.

An Austin man was seriously injured on Interstate 35 near Owatonna when he tried to pass a semi, lost control and was broadsided, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Pedro Nolasco, 37, was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital — St. Marys Campus in Rochester, while his passenger was uninjured.

The state patrol also reports three rollover crashes along Interstate 90 in Mower County.

A 2003 Buick Century traveling westbound near Dexter lost control on icy roads, went into the ditch and rolled over at about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday. Steven Larson, 39; Abagale Larson, 4; Kenneth Larson, infant; and Amy Elias, 34, all of Rochester, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin.

One person suffered minor injuries in the rollover accident near mile marker 196 in Mower County at about 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to the state patrol. The vehicle, a 2002 Dodge Durango, was heading westbound when it hit a snowy patch of road, lost control, went into the median and rolled.

Four people were in the vehicle. Only one, Jazmin Chavez Montano, 17, was taken to the Austin hospital.

Earlier, another vehicle traveling eastbound near Dexter lost control, went off the interstate and rolled.

David Puoch, 51, and Kuling Padiet, 79, both of Woodbury, suffered minor injuries. Padiet was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital — St. Marys Campus in Rochester.

At least 250 crashes across state

Across Minnesota, the State Patrol reported 250 crashes and nearly 30 vehicles that slid off roads or spun out by midafternoon Tuesday.

A state trooper’s squad car was struck and badly damaged on I-494 near Concord in South St. Paul, Minnesota, while that trooper was investigating a crash.

Authorities closed a slippery stretch of Interstate 94 in central Minnesota for a time due to numerous accidents. The driver of an SUV was killed in a multivehicle crash on the freeway, the State Patrol said.

One person died in a crash on Highway 41 in Brown County of northeastern Wisconsin. At least four school buses got stuck in traffic behind the crash scene.
