A 48-year-old Austin man was arrested for DWI early Saturday 14 minutes after he was released from the Mower County Jail for a previous DWI charge.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said officers stopped and arrested the suspect at about 12:35 a.m. Saturday near the Burger King at the 1400 block of Fourth Street Northwest after they watched him run a stop sign at 17th Avenue Northwest, rapidly switch lanes and nearly hit a curb.

The man failed several field sobriety tests and preliminarily showed more than a 0.16 blood alcohol content, or more than twice the legal limit, Krueger said.

He was taken to the Mower County Jail and given a urine analysis test. He was released at about 3:30 a.m. to a responsible party.

Yet the same officers that arrested him the first time spotted him driving southbound on Fourth Avenue Northwest at about 3:47 a.m.

Police arrested him once more near Austin High School and took him back to jail, where they held him until he was sober.
