Driver refresher courses offered in March and April

As the years go by, drivers can develop bad habits and forget good ones. Now there is a refresher course available to help.

The Minnesota Highway Safety Center will offer an eight-hour 55 and older Driver Improvement Courses on from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on March 30 and 31, along with a four-hour refresher course on April 20, at Blooming Prairie High School, Community Education at 202 Fourth Ave. NW in Blooming Prairie.

The Driver Improvement course is open to the public and registration is required in advance. A Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center certified instructor teaches this class. By utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, participants will be provided the latest information in regards to driver safety, new laws and vehicle technology. The fee for the four-hour refresher course is $20 and the eight hour course is $24. Anyone age 55 and older who completes the course will qualify for a 10 percent discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. First time participants must complete the initial eight hours of training and a four hour refresher class every three years to maintain the discount.
