Packer swimmers advance seven to state at Section 1A finals

The Austin boys swimming and diving team had a huge day at the Section 1A finals in Inver Grove Heights Friday.

Austin qualified a total of seven athletes for state in nine events and Craig Heimark won the 100-yard freestyle and took second in the 50-yard freestyle.

Austin’s other state qualifers include: the 200-yard medley relay team of Sam Clasen, Matthew Knoll, Ben Walker and Seth Clasen, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Heimark, Seth Clasen, Isaac Christopherson and Sawyer Myers, the 400-yard freestyle team of Heimark, Christopherson, Ben Walker and Sawyer Myers, Christopherson in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, Myers in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle, Walker and Seth Clasen in the 100-yard butterfly.

As a team, the Packers finished fourth out of 11 teams with a score of 209. Saint Thomas Academy won the meet with a 561.
