Packer boys basketball team holds off Panthers

The Austin boys basketball team held off a second half surge by Rochester Century (3-20 overall, 2-17 Big Nine) to pick up a 65-58 win in Rochester Tuesday.

Austin (12-11 overall, 11-8 Big Nine) jumped out to a 10-2 lead and it led 31-22 at the half, but the Panthers took a 40-36 lead with 11 minutes left in the game. Austin freshman Tate Hebrink answered with back-to-back 3-pointers and Austin scored 12 straight points to jump out to a 48-40 lead.

“Tate hit a couple of big shots and Nik hit a couple of big shots as well,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said.

Gach Gach had 20 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Packers, who forced 19 turnovers and committed just eight turnovers.
