ST. PAUL — Rep. Jeanne, Poppe, DFL-Austin, was sworn in for her sixth term in District 27B and Rep. Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea, was sworn in for her first term in District 27A Tuesday as Minnesota legislators gathered at the Capitol today for the first day of the 2015 Legislative Session.

“I am humbled to continue to represent the people of District 27B,” Poppe said in a press release. “It is truly an honor to serve. We have big challenges ahead of us from investing in our transportation system, to increasing access to affordable college and career training, to making early childhood learning opportunities affordable and available for more families. I am ready to get to work to create policies that not only serve my district, but Minnesota as a whole.”

Along with Bennett, this session of the legislature includes 26 new members of the Minnesota House of Representatives, as the Republicans gained the majority in the House.

“I’m honored and very grateful for the opportunity to represent our community in St. Paul, and am ready to get to work on their behalf addressing the issues Minnesotans care most about,” Bennett said in a press release. “People in Greater Minnesota want successful schools, good-paying jobs, and policies that strengthen our economy and help all of Minnesota—not just the Metro area. I will work with members of either party to accomplish these goals and other important issues at the Capitol.”

Poppe was appointed to five committees: Agriculture Finance, Agriculture Policy, Capital Investment, Environment and Natural Resources Policy and Finance, and Ways and Means. Poppe works as a counselor at Riverland Community College.
