Hayfield boys basketball team falls to Pine Island

The Hayfield boys basketball team erased a 16-point second half deficit, but it still lost 72-71 to Pine Island (10-11 overall, 6-7 HVL) in Hayfield Tuesday.

The Vikings (6-13 overall, 4-9 HVL) rallied from 16 points down to take a 71-70 lead when Aaron Anderson hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left in the game, but PI took the lead for good with 19 seconds left.

Hayfield had three go-ahead shots that came up short in the last 10 seconds of the game.

“It would’ve been easy to just fold. We kept battling and scrambling,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said. “I’m happy with the comeback, but we made some mental mistakes in the first half that ultimately cost us the game.”
