The Austin City Council approved a Vision 2020 project Monday to put a new Welcome to Austin sign on the trailhead recently constructed near the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.

Vision 2020 Bike/Walk Committee co-chair Steven Kime said the committee felt it would be a good idea to have a sign at the new trail connection near 21st Street and Interstate 90 to let people know they were entering the city and to provide a place for good memories.

“There’s always a place where you stop and take a … photo of yourself,” he said.

The project will cost $2,700 and is part of the $10,000 in grant money the city gave to the Bike/Walk Committee in 2014. It will likely be put up this spring.

Clark began working for the city on Dec. 8, but the council recently decided to put goals in place to measure his progress. Clark said he welcomed the process.

“By and large, my goals are your goals,” Clark told the council. “That’s the role of a city administrator.”

Council Member Judy Enright devised a way to evaluate Clark based on Riverland Community College’s performance evaluation process. Mayor Tom Stiehm is expected to meet with Enright to work out further goals based on Clark’s job description and present them to the council in the future.
