Violet A. Kollar, 94, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at Prairie Manor Care Center.

Violet Anna Scherer was born Dec. 17, 1919, in Poplar River Township, Red Lake County, Minnesota, to Nicklaus and Nellie (Baumgartner) Scherer. A 1938 graduate of Amboy High School, she was class salutatorian and senior vice president. On Aug. 13, 1939, Violet and Steven Frank Kollar were married at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. She worked as a farm wife, waitress, and as night proof-reader at Brown Printing Company in Waseca, Minnesota. Violet enjoyed reading, gardening, and cooking, especially making breads and pies. She also enjoyed watching boxing and football. Violet spent the last 10 years of her life at Prairie Manor Care Center. The staff there became her everyday family and was entertained by her unique sense of humor and charm.

Violet is survived by a son, Mikel (Joyce) Kollar of Bovey, Minnesota; a daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Moore of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren: Kerry Moore (Ed Gardner), Julie Moore (Andrew Voelz), Krystal (Tom) Motley, James (Brenda) Kollar, Margaret Berndt, Elizabeth (Michael) Lawson, Victoria (Robert) Nunez; great-grandchildren: Amelie and William Gardner, Kasey Mitchell, Ryan and Kadence Motley, Lauren and Kennedy Kollar, Jax and Jace Berndt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicklaus and Nellie Scherer; her husband, Steven Kollar in March 1974; son Stephen Thomas ‘Tommy’ Kollar in July 1986; sisters: Agnes, Dorothy, Rose ‘Alice’ and Edna; and brothers: Earl, Arthur, Richard and Donald.

Private family services are scheduled for a later date. Memorials can be directed to Prairie Manor Care Center, Methodist Kahler School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund, or to recipient of donor’s choice. Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
