Taking a look back to our 2014 travels

As our 2014 schedule has come to an end, we reminisce about the places we have been. The trip to the Panama Canal was most educational and a beautiful place to visit.

We made many one-day trips which are always popular. Our two mystery trips to new destinations filled quickly. One was near Austin and the other highlighted Waterloo, Iowa.

September took us to Door County and Mackinaw Island. Staying on the island for two nights gave us time to explore by rented bike. We ended the six-day trip with a ferry ride across Lake Michigan from Ludington to Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

Our next outing was two days filled with activity. Attending the opening night of the Christmas production at the Fireside Dinner Theater, guests were invited to a special reception following the show, where we met the cast. On day two, which was Halloween, dinner was at a Scandinavian farm there was. A home cooked meal along with music and delightful entertainment.

November had us making our 23rd trip to Branson, Missouri. Following Veterans Day Branson is very patriotic and shows honor to our veterans.

More than 100 different shows are held any given week. A favorite lunch stop en-route included the Throlled Roll restaurant. We enjoyed the warm rolls as the waiter strolled down the isle to toss fresh, warm rolls to everybody, followed up with some honey or molasses. You can’t beat that for southern cooking.

Our visit to the newly decorated Old Log Theater in November was our last group outing for 2014.

“Life Could be a Dream,” musical was a delightful production. It was especially special for one couple on the trip, as their grandson played one of the lead parts. They surprised him after the show when they met up with him in the lobby.

This is what group travel is about.

Plans are being made for the 2015 schedule with some fun ideas planned. An extended fall trip is always on our schedule, along with some surprise places to visit.

In early 2015, we will announce the date of our annual coffee party with plans for trips available. This will appear in the Austin Daily Herald and Mower County monthly newsletter. Schedules are also available at the south entrance near the front door. Tours are available to all ages.

With only a few days left, a gift certificate (in any amount) is still available. Call 507-438-3946, as the office is not open regular hours during this winter.

Merry Christmas and safe travels in the new year.
