Police are looking into why a 53-year-old Austin man was jumped by two men early Saturday.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said the victim was walking around Mill Pond shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday when he noticed two black males walking behind him. According to a police report, the man had just electronically unlocked his car when the suspects allegedly hit him from behind and knocked him to the ground.

The suspects demanded the victim empty his pockets while they punched and kicked him, but the victim protected his wallet, according to Krueger. Eventually they let him up after two or three more people came nearby.

The man ran to his car and locked the doors while both suspects took off. Krueger said a K9 unit later recovered the suspect’s hat but was unable to find his car keys.

The suspects are described as about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and wore black clothes that night.
