Renee A. Anderson, 92, of Austin, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.

141231.AndersonReneeRenee Anita Christensen was born Oct. 26, 1922, in River Falls, Wisconsin, to Alfred and Bertha (Jensen) Christensen. She was a graduate of River Falls High School and the Minneapolis School of Cosmetology. Renee and Arthur Anderson were united in marriage on Sept. 18, 1948, in Forest Lake, Minnesota. The couple raised four children. Renee was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austin where she taught Sunday school, and a current member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin where she was involved in many activities, including serving on the funeral committee, working at Global Health Ministries, quilting, and WELCA. She also belonged to Eastern Star, and enjoyed working as a hairdresser at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home and various other salons, and as a nurse’s aide at Burr Oak Manor. Renee had a very artistic nature and was an accomplished painter. A lover of children and animals, she also liked to garden, find four-leaf clovers, and watch sports. Renee was dedicated to her family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children: Dennis (Sandi) Anderson of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Darlene (Tom) Merchant of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Rebecca (Dan) Astrup of Austin, and Doug Anderson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nine grandchildren: Chelsey (Andy) Killough, McKenzie (Jeff) Stenberg, Adam Merchant, Crystal Merchant, Andrea (Jeremiah) Becker, Michael Astrup, Laura Astrup, Tyler (Anna) McNamer, and Mackenzie Anderson; two great-grandchildren; one sister Jean (Ken) Afdahl.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Bertha Christensen; her husband Arthur Anderson in 1999; and one brother Charles Christensen in infancy.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Glenn Monson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church on Friday, immediately preceding the service. Memorials can be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Missions. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
