Delbert N. Charlson, 86, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at Adams Health Care Center, Adams, Minnesota.

He was born Sept. 14, 1928, in Red Wing, Minnesota, to Norman Senior and Emma (Boesch) Charlson. Delbert grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing High School in 1946. He joined the U.S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1948.

On June 25, 1955, he married Gayle Crandall in Rochester, Minnesota. The couple later divorced. In 1958, Delbert moved to Austin, where he began his insurance career, working as a partner in the Osterud Agency and later as an independent insurance agent. He received his CLU in 1972. Delbert sold insurance in Austin for more than 45 years. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin, where he was a longtime money counter. Delbert also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Club, the American Legion, and the Elks Club. He enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Bruce) Prehn of Austin; grandsons: Josh and Seth Prehn; brother Norman (Kathy) Charlson of Blaine, Minnesota; sister Darlene (Jack) Tomhave of Redwing; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Emma Charlson and his brother, Arnold Charlson.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Glenn Monson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. immediately preceding the service. At Delbert’s request, his body will be donated to the Mayo Clinic Anatomical Bequest Program. Memorials can be directed to the Charlson family.
