Riverland men’s basketball team wins two games

The Riverland Community College men’s basketball team opened its season with a 96-77 win over Northwestern JV and a 71-44 win over Dort JV in the Minnesota West tournament this past weekend.

The Blue Devils (2-0 overall) have 11 sophomores on the squad and Dearionte Hudson, who is from Germantown, Wis., had 21 points in the win over Northwestern JV and Robert Parker, who is from Bloomington, Minn., had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Against Dort, Marcus Myers had nine points and four assists and Hayfield grad Jeremy Stuart had two points and four assists.

“It was a couple of good wins for us. The defensive intensity for us was key,” RCC head coach Scott Koenigs said. “We have a fun team to watch. We’re a completely different team this year and we’ve got some athletes.”
