Mayo Clinic Health System welcomes new OB/GYN

Mayo Clinic Health System — Albert Lea and Austin recently welcomed Shana Salik, certified nurse practitioner, to Austin’s OB/GYN department.

Salik received a Master of Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Nursing and is board certified as a nurse midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. While studying at UIC she also earned a Master of Public Health with a specialty in the health of maternal child populations. She served as a faculty clinical instructor in the Women, Children and Family Health Services Department at the UIC College of Nursing and worked as a women’s health nurse practitioner specializing in family planning for several clinics in the Chicagoland area.

“I look forward to working with the wide range of patients the Austin community provides, specifically with women on their reproductive health at all stages of their lives, including pregnancy,” says Salik. She has a special interest the health of underserved populations and in CenteringPregnancy, which focuses on group prenatal care.

Residents invited to tree-lighting ceremony

Mayo Clinic Health System’s hospice program invites area residents to the “Set Memories Aglow” tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, in the medical center’s lobby, 1000 First Drive NW in Austin. The tree will remain lit through the holiday season.

Monetary donations can be made in memory of a loved one, friend, or for someone living you wish to honor. Donation forms are available at the Mayo Clinic Store, located on the first floor of the medical center, in our Hospice office, 101 14th Street NW, or at one of the following locations:

•Austin main campus, 1000 First Drive NW, 10 a.m. to noon, Nov. 5, 12, and 19

•Mayo Clinic Health System regional clinics

•Austin Hy-Vee, 1001 18th Ave. NW, 4 to 6 p.m., Nov. 5, 12, and 19

All donations help support the Austin Hospice program. The funds will be used for the following items which include, but are not limited to, patient care items, family bereavement services and free public groups. For more information, call 507-434-1415.
