The Hayfield boys basketball team opened its season with a 67-60 loss at Maple River Friday.

The Vikings (0-1 overall) led 49-48 in the second half, when Maple River used a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Hayfield was led by Cam Rutledge, who scored 20 points and Taylor Ausrud, who had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

“I was happy, considering it was a our first game and we only have one guy with significant varsity experience,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said.
