ST. PAUL— Authorities have charged a St. Paul man who they say stabbed four men and his girlfriend at her birthday party.

Dashawn Williams was charged with five felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault by strangulation. He was being held in the Ramsey County Jail on Wednesday on $100,000 bond.

Police say the male victims approached officers who responded to a 911 call Monday. One of the men says Williams accused his girlfriend of cheating on him. She says he choked her so hard she became lightheaded, and he had done so more than 50 times before.

The men tell officers they were trying to protect her. They were taken to area hospitals in unreported conditions.
