GRAND MEADOW — The Superlarks did something they’ve been doing for the last four years when they hosted Lanesboro in the Section 1 nine man football semifinals Saturday — they won a home game.

Grand Meadow’s current senior class never lost a home game in four years and they’ll finish their careers undefeated at home as the Superlarks completed their last home contest with a 49-6 win over the No. 4 seeded Burros (5-5 overall).

GM (10-0 overall) set the tone on its first possession as Landon Jacobson broke off a 24-yard run to set up his own 25-yard TD run and the GM defense held the Burros to just two first downs in the first half.

Jacobson, who is one of six seniors on GM’s roster, finished the night with 152 yards rushing and two TDs.

“‘I’ve never played on a bad team,” Jacobson said. “I’ve never lost in a purple jersey, I’ve always played on a good team with a good line and that’s made it easier on all of us. I get hyped up for every game, but knowing this was my last game on this field was exciting and I tried to make the most out of it.”

The Superlarks’ starters played just a handful of plays in their round one win over Glenville-Emmons, but they stayed in the game for about two and a half quarters Saturday. The Larks showed the capability of making big plays as Blake Olson hauled in a one-handed, 55-yard TD grab to make it 14-0 and Michael Stejskal broke off a 44-yard TD run to make it 43-0 in the third quarter.

Stejskal ran for 105 yards and two TDs on just eight carries.

“Right now everyone’s keying on Landon and we’re trying to use our other options,” Stejskal said. “We’ve only played one full game this year and our conditioning isn’t where we want it to be. I think this game helped it out a little bit. We’ve got a tough game next week.”

GM has been able to run the ball all it wants this season, but the team showed signs of being able to make some big plays in the passing game Saturday. The Larks had some open receivers on deep routes that resulted in either dropped passes or mis-timed throws against Lanesboro, but those plays could eventually start becoming TDs.

“We’ve got to get our timing down a little bit better and once that happens, we’ll have our ran and pass going and I don’t think anyone can stop it,” Stejskal said.

The Larks will play No. 2 seeded Spring Grove for the Section 1 title Friday at RCTC Stadium in Rochester at 5:30 p.m. GM has beaten the Lions in the last two section title games.

GM head coach Gary Sloan said that he was glad his team was able to stay focused on the Lanesboro game and not start thinking about the Lions too early.

“A lot of people have been hyped up for the Spring Grove game, but you’ve got to focus on your goal. Our goal tonight was Lanesboro and the I think we didi a pretty good job of that,” Sloan said.

Sloan also credited his seniors for helping turn the Larks into a team that took second in the state in 2012 and won a state title in 2013. The Larks are ranked No. 1 in the state this season.

“We talk a lot in our program about the legacy and the history for your class,” Sloan said. “I’m really proud of this group. They’ve meant an awful lot to this program.”

When GM and the Lions met in the regular season, the Larks held on to a 20-18 win Sept. 5. Sloan is hoping his team can play better than it did in that game.

“We weren’t happy at all with how we played against them the first time,” Sloan said. “I think they controlled the line of scrimmage on us, I don’t think we tackled very well and I know we didn’t block very well. We’re going to have to play a lot better if we’re going to beat them.”
