The Freeborn/Mower Habitat for Humanity will make a big move next month.

Habitat for Humanity will open its new office and ReStore location at the Sterling Shopping Center on Tuesday, Dec. 2, after Habitat staff closes its current ReStore on Friday.

“We’ve been looking for quite some time for a space that was bigger and more retail-friendly,” said Brigitte Campbell, executive director of the local Habitat for Humanity chapter.

The ReStore has been located at 800 7th Ave. NE in Austin, one block north of the Packer Arena since 2005, but has been looking to relocate to a more visible location for some time. The new space at Sterling Shopping Mall, 1415 1st Ave. SW, is about 8,000 square feet, almost double the size of Habitat’s current location.

Campbell said the move will allow Habitat staff to earn more money to help house more people in the area.
