A garage at the 400 block of Fifth Street Northwest was declared a total loss after a fire Monday afternoon near Grinder’s Deli.

Austin firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 1 p.m. Monday and successfully put the flames out, according to Fire Chief Jim McCoy.

McCoy said there was about $5,000 worth of damage done to the property, though Grinders escaped relatively unharmed. The deli closed Monday afternoon to deal with light smoke damage.
