Antique appraisal coming to Austin

Get the antiques out of the attic; it’s time to see what they’re worth.

At 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Mark Moran will be coming to the Austin Public Library to appraise antiques in the Austin community. The cost to have antiques appraised is $15 for members of the Mower County Historical Society, Friends of the Austin Public Library, or the Hormel Historic Home, and $25 for non-members. Registration is required. Participants are only allowed to show one item per reservation made. Some items are excluded, such as weapons and old currency. Registrants will be asked to identify their item when signing up. Participants can register at the Mower County Historical Society.

The cost to attend as a spectator is $3 per person. Space is limited to 40 participants, and an additional session may be scheduled if registration demand exceeds 40.

Formerly senior editor of Antiques and Collectibles Books for Krause Publications in Iola, Wisconsin, Moran has also been a contributing editor for Antique Trader magazine. He has served as editor of Antique Review East magazine; as producer of Atlantique City, an antique show held in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and as editorial director of F+W Media’s Antiques Group.

He is the author or co-author of more than 25 books on antiques and collectibles. Moran bought and sold antiques for more than 30 years, specializing in vintage folk art, Americana and fine art. He has been active as an appraiser of antiques and fine art for more than 20 years.
