A 19-year-old Austin man has pleaded guilty to possessing a dangerous weapon on school property.

Ezra Robert Hardy is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 21.

Hardy was arrested on July 30 after he scared off two men on Neveln Elementary School grounds with a realistic-looking BB gun. Witnesses said Hardy got into an argument with several men in the grassy area between the tennis courts and playground at Neveln. Hardy showed off the BB gun which caused the men to flee to a nearby car and drive off.

Police later found Hardy at a nearby home at the 2000 block of Sixth Avenue Northeast and located the BB gun under a dresser in a bedroom.

According to a court complaint, Hardy told police he was riding his bike when several members of his former gang drove near him. Hardy said his old gang was looking for him because of a gang violation and the gang wanted to beat him because he wanted to leave the group.

Hardy was also charged with possessing a firearm as a felon, but that charge was dropped as part of a plea agreement.
