The Austin boys soccer team is still looking to find consistency on offense.

The Packers were shutout for the third time this season as they lost 1-0 to Rochester Mayo in Art Hass Stadium Monday night.

The Spartans (6-4-1 overall, 3-3-1 Big Nine) took the lead for good when Alex Sedarski lobbed a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out with 2:45 left in the first half.

Austin had six shots on goal, but three of those attempts came in the first 10 minutes of the game.

“We’ve got to get in there and make the defense and the goal keeper uncomfortable,” Austin head coach Jens Levisen said. “We have to force a save and not give them a shot from a ways out that’s going to be an easy save.”

Austin (3-5-2 overall, 2-3-2 Big Nine) has now scored one goal or less in seven of its 10 contests. Levisen said his team has to focus on creating more offense on a regular basis.

“We’re used to teams coming out and playing defense against us. Some of these other teams are conditioned if they get that one [goal] to hunker in and make things difficult for us,” he said. “We have to know how to get through everything. The guys need to be aware of where their teammates are, where the defenders are, and how to create space.”

Austin had a chance on a couple of headers off of corner kicks, but it came up wide on both attempts. Gach Gach had 10 saves for Austin.

“In comparison to the way we played Saturday, I was pleased,” Levisen said. “On Saturday [in a 1-0 loss to Rochester Lourdes] there wasn’t effort, there wasn’t intensity, there wasn’t passion and we were just going through the motions. We played with that tonight, but we need to create more opportunities.”
