Letter: Thanks for support during Spare Arts concert

I recently had the pleasure of playing music in your city (in an alley behind Dustys)  and wanted to tell you what a great time was had by me and the band.

I used to spend summers in Austin with my childhood friends (the Kraske’s)  I remember the fair and the football games and the lake, but I don’t remember any music back then.

For a town to have balance, music must be part of the equation … of course, I believe that, I am after all a musician.  At the same time, we all come from somewhere and we all were young once and we all remember what makes us feel good.  Music is the universal that speaks to us all.

Music has always made me feel good.  The people who play it, sing along to it, host it, follow it from town to town, turn you on to it and freak out over it have always been my favorite people.

Two of my new favorite people are Andrew Hull and Mark Nagle.  You are lucky enough to have real supporters down there, real believers in what is good and what matter to the people of Austin. They’re both dreamers, and that what makes them vital to a community. They remind us what we can accomplish together.  They see more potential than possible failure, more work than giving up, they see how much better things can still be. They treated us like we were almost famous and fed us, and even gave the whole band an extra meal and a bunch of Dusty’s T-shirts to take home. We talked the whole way home of how special that night was.

I can’t say how important that is to people like me and what it means to know that when we think about places to play, Austin is now one of them.

Thanks,

Frankie Lee
