Three people are behind bars after a series of drug-related arrests over the Labor Day weekend.

Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger said police arrested three people in separate cases after officers found drugs on the suspects.

Officers arrested a 20-year-old Austin man during a traffic stop at 3:38 a.m. Sunday for fifth-degree drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possessing marijuana in a motor vehicle.

Police stopped the man because he had items hanging from his rearview mirror. Officers found three baggies containing marijuana and one baggie of a crystal substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

A 35-year-old man from Northwood, Iowa, was arrested on third-degree drug possession charges on Monday. Officers were called to County Road 46 west of Austin for a report of a car swerving across the road. Police stopped the Northwood man and noticed he was nervous. The man admitted to using meth the night before, and officers found 8.5 grams of meth in his car.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old Austin man just before 1 a.m. Tuesday at the 900 block of Second Avenue Northeast. Police went to a home in that area to check on a possible suspect with a warrant when they smelled marijuana smoke from a nearby unattached garage. The 21-year-old answered police and admitted to smoking marijuana at the time. Police also found two small baggies with about 1.5 grams of meth inside the garage.

All three are in the Mower County Jail awaiting formal charges.
