The Southland football team opened its season with a 26-0 loss to Caledonia (1-0 overall, 1-0 SFA) on the road Friday.

The Rebels, who had 91 yards of offense, trailed 12-0 at the half, but they couldn’t overcome their four turnovers in the loss.

“You can’t do that against good teams like Caledonia,” Southland head coach Shawn Kennedy said.

The Rebels (0-1 overall, 0-1 SFA) took a hit early on in the game as Jackson Koenigs, who started at linebacker and fullback for Southland, was injured just three minutes into the contest. Koenigs’ injury may be serious, which is not good for a Southland team that is low on numbers this season.

“That really hurts,” Kennedy said.
