Roger A. Lientz Jr., 59, of Blooming Prairie, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1954, in Urbandale, Iowa, to Roger Sr. and Dorothy (Gardner) Lientz. Roger grew up in the Albia, Iowa, area and graduated from Albia High School in 1973. He worked at the Hormel plant in Ottumwa, Iowa, and later at the Hormel plant in Austin for over 32 years. On May 3, 1975, Roger married Kathy Chidester in Albia, Iowa. The couple later divorced. Roger was an avid hunter, and also enjoyed fishing and bird watching. He enjoyed woodworking, cooking, tending to his garden, and spending time with his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his son Troy Lientz (Kandee Feist) of Austin; his daughter Shellese (Tom) Kirtz of Eyota, Minnesota; his former wife Kathy Lientz of Austin; seven grandchildren, Alicyn, Kaya, Cora, Xhander, Wyatt, Ella, and Hazel; his sister Teri Lientz of Des Moines, Iowa; his step-mother Marty Lientz of Massena, Iowa; two step-brothers Steve Hoyt and Kevin Hoyt; many nieces, nephews; other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Shana in 1980; his mother Dorothy Lientz in 1983; and his father Roger Lientz Sr. in 2002.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Father John Traufler officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Memorials can be directed to the Lientz Family. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
