Best Bets: Weekend packed with variety from art to dogs

With tons to do this weekend, there won’t be a moment to spare. With motorcycles, a children’s play and fine art, and even something to take Rover to, there’s sure to be something to fit everyone’s taste this weekend.

1. Austin ArtWorks Center

10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday, Austin Artworks Center

Open hours at the new Austin ArtWorks Center. We will be featuring artwork by Zane York, Joseph Sand, and Angela Pipkorn.

2. Sixth Annual Doggy Dip

6 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Austin Municipal Pool

The cost is $2 for one dog and two human companions. Additional human companions cost $1 each. Memberships are not accepted. For more information, call 507-433-1881.

3. The Princess Who Had No Name

7 to 9 p.m., Friday through Sunday, Historic Paramount Theatre

Come enjoy a Matchbox Children’s Theatre production. Children will perform “The Princess Who Had No Name,” about a princess who wakes up and doesn’t know who she is. Throughout the process of trying to find her identity, she meets many other fairytale characters: Snow White, Rumpelstiltskin, the seven dwarfs, Hansel and Gretel, and more. Tickets are $5 for children and $7 for adults. Showtimes for Saturday and Sunday are 2 to 3:30 p.m.

4. Spare Arts Alley Party

8:30 p.m., Friday, Behind Dusty’s Bar

Spare Arts Alley Party 2014 featuring Frankie Lee and BB Gun will take place behind Dusty’s Bar. There is no charge but donations will be accepted for the Holton Art Program. Only persons ages 21 and older can attend.

5. Spare Arts Bike Show

10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, along Main Street in Downtown Austin

Spare Arts Bike Show along Main Street in downtown Austin will feature custom built motorcycles and activities.

6. Austin ArtWorks Festival

9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Historic Downtown Power Plant

Austin ArtWorks Festival will take place at the Historic Downtown Power Plant. This event is free. There will be lots of visual arts, music, demonstrations, children’s activities, and much more.
