The Austin girls soccer team opened its season with the same opponent that ended its season last year, and the Packers were able to change the outcome.

After losing to Waseca 1-0 in the Section 1A tournament last year, Austin tied 1-1 with the Bluejays in Art Hass Stadium Friday night.

The Packers (0-0-1 overall) opened the scoring when sophomore Kallie Bumgarner scored in the first half to put Austin up 1-0, but Waseca tied things up for good with 20 minutes left in the second half.

“The girls did a really good job,” Austin head coach Enrique Camarena-Corzo said. “We had good protection and Chloe Summerfield had a good game at goalie. The defense played amazing.”
