Walter Leigh Christian, 96, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minn.

Walter was born on Feb. 9, 1918, the son of Elmer and Eunice (Richardson) Christian in Williams, Iowa. He was one of four siblings: Edward (Syvilla) Christian, Mazzelle (Everett) Blanchard and Velva (Gus) Baumgartner. All preceded him death.

He was married to Violet Buck on Oct. 7, 1938. Walter is survived by his children, Sharon (Robert) Hanson, Lake Elmo, Minn., Larry (Karen) Christian, Blooming Prairie, Minn., Michael (Sharon) Christian, Denver, Colo.; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. Violet preceded him in death.

He was married to Ethel Boeff, on July 3 , 2004. Ethel brought into the marriage Arnold (Martha) Boeff of Laveen, Ariz., Raymond (Joyce) Boeff of Hastings, Larry Boeff of Guthrie, Okla., Dale (Tracey) Boeff of Eagan, Diane (David) Boley of Hayfield and Jerry (Robbie) Boeff, Cheyenne, Wyo.; and their children and grandchildren. Ethel preceded him in death.

Walter was a longtime resident and farmer in Mower County. He also became a salesman for feed and seed companies later in his life. He was a top salesman for Vigortone Feeds for many years. He also served many years on the Waltham Township Board, and served as an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards, traveling, gardening and socializing with his friends and family. Blessed be his memory.

The funeral service for Walter Leigh Christian will be 10:30 a.m. July 26, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street SE, Hayfield, MN, with Pastor Paul Hauschild. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
