Robert Michael Toporek, Jr., 51, of Austin, died at Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin July 23, 2014.

He was born Aug. 29, 1962, to Robert and Sylvia (Shannon) Toporek in Atlanta, Ga. The family moved to Indiana where Robert graduated from Morton High School. He married Janet Lynn Lagenoek on May 29, 1982, in Hammond, Ind. They moved to Minnesota in 1997. Robert was a plant supervisor at Hormel Foods Corporation most of his working life. A member of First United Methodist Church, Bob refereed football and basketball and coached soccer and softball. He loved watching sports and attending games. He was also a golfer and an animal lover.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Toporek of Austin; one son, Kyle Toporek of Minneapolis; two daughters, Amber Toporek of Austin and Kristen Toporek of Minneapolis; a granddaughter, Addison Leathers; his parents, Sylvia “Cookie” and Robert, Sr. Toporek of Merrillville, Ind.; a brother, Denny (Kathy) Toporek of Demotte, Ind.; mother-in-law, Linda Lagenoek of Austin; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Lagenoek; and his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with The Rev. Merilee Benson officiating. Friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com. The family prefers memorials to Mower County Humane Society.
