2 injured in collision with deer on I-90

ALBERT LEA — Two Dodge Center residents were injured Saturday night when a minivan struck a deer on Interstate 90 a mile west of the Bridge Avenue interchange in Albert Lea.

Verline E. Chelsey, 65, was eastbound when the 2013 Dodge Caravan he was driving struck a deer at milepost 156. He was uninjured, but his wife, Darlene C. Chelsey, 56, a passenger, sustained an injury that wasn’t life-threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. She was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

Also injured was passenger Dylan E. Walterman, 18. The State Patrol lists his injury as not life-threatening. No hospital destination was listed in the State Patrol report for Walterman, which means he may or may not have gone to one.

All three were wearing seat belts. The call for aid came to dispatchers at 9:08 p.m. The Caravan was listed as having severe damage and was towed to Allen’s Tow-N-Travel in Albert Lea.

The State Patrol lists Gold Cross Ambulance as assisting at the crash site.
