The annual Darren Dash continued to keep a strong pace in its third year.

About 300 runners participated in the third annual Darren Dash Saturday.

“[It’s] not necessarily getting bigger, but that’s OK,” said Dana Kvam, who is the sister of Darren Lewis — the man the race is named after.

Kvam, along with her two brothers, Scott and Brett Lewis, help organize the event each year. She said the previous years saw similar numbers.

Although organizers don’t have an official dollar amount yet due to pending donations, Kvam estimated the run raised about $5,000. Most of the money from the fundraiser will go toward scholarships for cross country runners, and any remaining money will go to Desperate Tears, a nonprofit dedicated to the awareness and prevention of suicide.

Kvam said the race went very well, and the weather was nice, especially compared to previous years when it snowed.

“It went pretty smoothly,” Kvam said.

Kvam said they plan to continue the annual race, and they continue to make notes and discuss different ways to keep the event going and to keep runners coming.

“This is our way to honor him,” Kvam said.
