LP’s Holtz and Hayfield’s Carpentier qualify for state track and field meet

Lyle-Pacelli sophomore Sarah Holtz and Hayfield junior Cody Carpentier earned their first trips to state at the Section 1A track and field preliminary meet Tuesday.

Holtz won the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 3 inches and she will be competing in the Class A state track and field meet next week in Hamline University. Holtz will have a chance to qualify for state in the triple jump as she competes in that event Thursday in Winona.

Carpentier took second in the shot put with a distance of 51-5 to qualify for his first state meet. Carpentier will have a chance to get to state in the discus, when he throws Thursday in Winona.

GMLOS’s Morgan Schmitz took third in the discus finals as she threw a distance of 111-1.

Tuesday’s meet was delayed for two hours due to rain.
