Pacelli will induct six into athletic hall of fame

Six individuals will be inducted into the Pacelli Hall of Fame at a dinner hosted by the Pacelli Booster Club June 20. This event is held annually in conjunction with the Pacelli Golf Day, an annual fundraiser sponsored by the Pacelli Booster Club.

This year’s inductees are Chuck Von Feldt, Ray Halverson, Katie (Christopherson) Bergstrom, Brian Maas, Kathy Herzog and Brian Parlin.

Chuck VonFeldt – class of 1964

Chuck was a starter on the 1964 state runner-up basketball team. He was named to the all-tournament team. In addition to being athletically talented he was also academically gifted. Chuck was a member of the National Honor Society while a student at Pacelli. Chuck attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa where he was a three year letterman on their basketball team. In his senior year, Chuck was selected to the all-conference team. Chuck graduated from Loras College as the all time leading rebounder for their basketball team and is a member of the Loras College Hall of Fame.

Ray Halverson – class of 1965

Ray was a three sport athlete for Pacelli High School, starting in football, basketball, and baseball. Ray was a member of both the 1965 State Championship basketball team and the 1965 State championship baseball team. Ray’s was on the state basketball all-tournament team. After high school Ray enrolled in Austin Junior College where he played one year of college basketball. Then he entered the army where he served a two year tour of duty in Vietnam.

Katie (Christopherson) Bergstrom – class of 1980

Katie was also a three sport athlete for Pacelli. She ran cross country in the fall, played basketball in the winter and ran track in the spring. Katie was a member of both the 1979 and 1980 basketball teams that qualified for state. The 1980 team went undefeated all the way to the finals of the state tournament, finishing 25-1. Katie may best be remembered for her accomplishments in track. She teamed up with 2008 Hall of Fame inductee, Linda Sunderman to win the State Track meet in 1977. Katie placed 3rd in the high jump that year. She later went on to set a state record of 5’-7” in the high jump. Katie held school records in the high jump, as well as a member of both the 400 and 800 yd relay teams.

Brian Maas – class of 1980

Brian was another three sport athlete for Pacelli High School. A leader on the cross country team for four years and a two year starter in basketball. It was track that Brian really left his mark as an athlete. He was a two time State Champion in the 880 yd run setting a school and Region record of 1:55 and also finishing 2nd place in the state 440 yd dash with a time of :49 seconds. Brian was rewarded for his efforts in track by earning a scholarship to run for the University of Minnesota where he was a four year letter winner and captain of their track team.

Kathy Herzog – class of 1982

Kathy was a member of three state basketball tournament teams. The 1980 team went undefeated all the way to the finals of state where they fell to Albany finishing the year at 25-1. In 1981 they defeated Albany in the first round while placing 3rd in the tournament. It was track where Kathy really stood out. She was the 1981 State Champion in the 100 yd low hurdles setting a school record in that event as well as a member of the record setting 400 and 800 yd relay teams. Kathy was voted as the MVP of the 1981 track team.

Brian Parlin – class of 1999

Brian was a six year letterman in cross country and two time all-conference runner. He was a five year letterman in baseball and was the first Pacelli player to compete on the Lyle/Pacelli coop team. He was a starting pitcher with a 7-1 record his senior year, earning him an all-conference selection in baseball. The sport that he would be most recognized for was wrestling. He was a five time letterman, four time all-conference, three time Section champ and two time all-state performer finishing 4th and 5th place. He finished with a career record of 131-27. Brian just completed is seventh season as the head wrestling coach for Rochester John Marshall.
