Grand Meadow grad named SCSU female student athlete of the year

Grand Meadow grad Jessica Benson was recently named female student athlete of the year at the annual Senior Send-Off and Awards Celebration at St. Cloud State University.

Benson is a three-year starter and letterwinner. She earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Second Team All-Conference honors in 2013 and 2014. A team captain, she started all 27 games her senior season and averaged a team leading 15.6 points and 10.4 rebounds a game.  Benson led the team in each of the last three seasons in both categories.

Benson played in 87 career games for the Huskies and was a starter in 74 games. She ranks third on the all-time defensive rebounding average chart with 5.8 per game. She is 16th in career three-point field goals made with 66 and 16th in three-point field goal attempts with 211. Her 55 blocked shots ranks her tenth on the all-time list. She finished her career with 1,165 points and ranked 22nd on the all-time scoring chart. She collected 678 rebounds, 150 steals and 142 assists during her career.
