State wrestling: Hayfield’s Moreno takes second and GMLOK’s Richardson takes third

Hayfield senior Mason Moreno made his trip to the Class ‘A’ state wrestling meet count, but he couldn’t quite finish it off with a state title at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Saturday.

Moreno lost 6-4 to Quentin Berris of Kimball Area in the 132-pound state match. Moreno, who finishes the season at 33-2, advanced to the finals when he edged out Jason Meyer of Sibley East 4-3.

GMLOK’s Wyatt Richardson, took third place at 195 pounds. Richardson, a Grand Meadow junior, pinned Tyler Patron of New York Mills with eight seconds left in the first period in the third place match.

Richardson, who finishes the season at 29-5, lost to eventual state champ Nate Rose of Sibley East 9-1 in the semifinals.
