Celebrating Judy GarlandPublished 5:55pm Saturday, March 8, 2014
We will be celebrating Minnesota-born actress and singer Judy Garland, and raising the much needed funds for the Paramount this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. both days and including a 2 p.m. matinée on Saturday with “Judy, Judy, Judy!”
The show will explore Judy’s life from when she was a young girl through her successful career.
The three Judys in the title represent three stages in Judy’s life. Each stage will be portrayed by a different local actress. McKenna Donovan will play baby Judy, Emily McAlister will be young Judy, and Krista Lenn Johnson will perform older Judy.
In addition to playing Judy, Lenn Johnson has used her extensive knowledge about Judy’s life to work with director Jerry Girton and musical director Coni Nelson to select the best scenes and songs to tell Judy’s story.
The cast is rounded out by 19 additional local actors, who will play other important characters from Judy’s life, including Randy Forster as Vincent Minnelli, Micah Stroebel as Mickey Rooney, and Victoria Torkelson as Liza Minnelli. This is a must see show if you are a Judy Garland fan or even just want to know more about her life.
Tickets for this performance are $20, and the funds will go to support the Historic Paramount Theatre.
They can be purchased online at austinareaarts.org, at the Paramount Box Office Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and over the phone at 507-434-0934.
