A 49-year-old Austin man was arrested for DUI early Monday near Mapleview after his car started on fire.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said deputies responded to reports of a car fire at about 12:45 a.m. Monday near County Road 25 and County Road 45. Deputies arrested the man for DUI after they found the car, a GMC Sierra, in a ditch, while flames engulfed the hood.

A female passenger told police she was trying to push the man out of the car after they went into the ditch when she spotted flames near the front right wheel. She then yelled at the man to leave the car.
