No one was injured in a house fire Thursday night after Austin firefighters spent four hours putting out flames at the 300 block of Fourth Street Southwest.

Austin Fire Chief James McCoy said three adults left the home safely after firefighters responded to the fire at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

“Most of it was in the walls, so we had to do a lot of digging to get to the fire,” McCoy said.

It’s unknown what caused the fire, but the Austin Fire Department estimated it caused $50,000 worth of property damage and $70,000 in total damages.

McCoy said the house is inhospitable and the family sought shelter elsewhere. The fire is under investigation.
