Stuart steps up as Hayfield boys down Lancers

The Hayfield boys basketball team gutted out a 55-52 win over La Crescent (10-7 overall, 7-4 HVL Gold) in Hayfield Thursday.

Jeremy Stuart scored the last 11 points of the game for the Vikings (14-3 overall, 8-2 HVL) over the last seven minutes to give his team a lift. Stuart finished with 19 points.

Cam Rutledge scored 15 points and went 4-for-5 on 3s in the first half for the Vikings, who have found their shooting stroke after struggling in losses to Byron and Kasson-Mantorville.

Hayfield shot 41 percent on 3s Tuesday.

“Coming off two bad shooting games, we’ve answered with two good shooting games with this one and the game against Blooming Prairie,” Hayfield head coach Chris Pack said.
