Austin is taking a step back to the soundtrack of “American Bandstand” this weekend.

The Northwestern Singers will present “Tribute to American Bandstand” at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Austin’s Paramount Theatre.

The Northwestern Singers will sing and dance through the four decades of American Bandstand – 1950s through 1980s — featuring songs like “Rock Around the Clock,” “The Beat Goes On,” “Build Me Up Buttercup,” “Here Comes The Sunday,” “Joy To The World,” “September” and “Lean On Me.”

The show will feature costumes and choreography, as the singers will be accompanied by an eight-piece band. The fifth-grade choir from I.J. Holton Intermediate School will also perform.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the Paramount Theatre by calling 507 434-0934 or online at www.paramounttheratre.org/tickets.html.

The Northwestern Singers have been performing in Austin for 60 years and feature 45 singers ranging in age from the 20s to 70s, from many different backgrounds whose common bond is singing and performing. The singers are looking ahead to this spring, when the group will perform a tribute to Lawrence Welk.
