(8 TIE) Southland basketball player Mike Goergen finishes as school’s all-time leading scorer.

Southland’s Mike Goergen had already committed to play college football at North Dakota State University, but when the basketball season rolled around, Goergen had plenty to motivate him. He had missed most of his senior football season at Southland with an injury, so it meant a lot to him to get back on the basketball floor. Goergen, who started for four years on the Southland boys basketball team, now leads the Rebels in career scoring as he surpassed 1985 graduate Brad Tompkins, who held the previous career scoring record with 1,281 points.
