Swimming and diving: Packer girls send five to state

The Austin girls swimming and diving team advanced five athletes to state at the Section 1A meet in Rochester Friday.

Austin senior diver Autumn Laury took fourth to get back to state and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Merideth Fritz, Heather Johnson, Maddie Kinney and Mikayla Finney swam .45 of a second faster than the state cut time to get to state.

Laury was the last diver to qualify for state as her score of 349.88 was 8 points better than the fifth place finisher.

Laury took third in diving at state last season.

200-individual medley: Maddie Kinney (16th, 2:20.79)

50-freestyle: Merdieth Fritz (seventh, 25.19); Heather Johnson (16th, 26.48)

Diving: Autumn Laury (fourth, 349.88); Bailey Corey (ninth, 287.98)

100-butterfly: Merideth Fritz (eighth, 1:02.87); Hannah Schwemmler (11th, 1:05.70); Katelyn Hillson (13th, 1:06.10)

100-freestyle: Heather Johnson (11th, 56.22)

100-backstroke: Maddie Kinney (12th, 1:04.88); Emma Kleis (12th, 1:04.88);

400-freestyle relay: Merideth Fritz, Heather Johnson, Maddie Kinney, Mikayla Finney (fifth, 3:47.37)
