The No. 2 Vikings (19-8 overall) established themselves early on and they won the match by scores of 25-7, 25-6, 25-18.

Hayfield junior Bhrett Zahnle served the last six points of the first game and the first 12 points of the second game and she finished with five ace serves on the night.

“I was just trying to get the ball over the net,” Zahnle said. “It was a good match and we did really well. We played our game and it turned out like we wanted to.”

Hayfield’s hitters were aggressive throughout the match as Dani Wagner racked up 11 kills and Jo Bungum finished with five kills.

Southland (8-22 overall) struggled to find its rhythm in the first two games.

“Their offense was successful and ours was not,” Southland head coach Andrew McKichan said. “We couldn’t put the ball down and their offense is phenomenal. They’ve got a lot of weapons.”

Southland made a strong surge at the end of the third game when Kaitlin Weber served nine straight points to bring the Rebels to within 23-18.

Hayfield will now take on No. 3 Medford Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Mayo Civic Center. Hayfield swept Medford Aug. 22 and it beat the Tigers in two games Sept. 28.

“Medford is a scrappy and smart team,” Hayfield head coach Jeremy Struck said. “We know it’s a huge game and we know how far we want to go.”

Morgan Schmitz had five kills for Southland.
