Three vehicles involved in crash on Highway 16

Nobody was seriously injured after a three-vehicle crash sent a trailer into another vehicle and then into the ditch east of Grand Meadow on Tuesday.

Two 17-year-olds, from Northwood and Spring Valley, were waiting to turn onto Highway 63 from Highway 16 in a Pontiac Grand Prix when Rondal Sween of Grand Meadow, 61, collided with their vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol crash report. Sween, was driving a Toyota Highlander and hauliang a trailer. Sween’s trailer then hit a Buick LeSabre driven by Henry Waalkens, 89, of Albert Lea, the report added. The trailer lay in the ditch after the accident, and debris was scattered across the road while emergency officials were on scene shortly after 5 p.m.

The 17-year-old Spring Valley girl sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. Nobody else was injured, and alcohol was not a factor.
