Stay informed on Obamacare

There is nothing we or anyone can do about Americans who choose to be uninformed, but we cannot help but roll our eyes at how misguided some members of the general electorate are.

Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel said he found it strange how people dislike Obamacare but like the services and options it offers. So he sent a camera crew out to ask people on Hollywood Boulevard about it. It wasn’t one of those Jay Leno-type segments where producers only show the dumb answers. It offered viewers an array of answers.

Oddly, most said they didn’t like Obamacare because it forces health care on Americans, but they did say they like the Affordable Care Act because it gives them choices.

Here is an example of a man asked about Obamacare:

“It’s nice everyone can afford it and everyone should be able to afford it, but to force people to pay something and then doctors make something, limiting their ability to do their job, that’s kind of anti-American,” the man said. He went on to say the Affordable Care Act “is more American because it allows people to make their own choices about what they want and who they want to work with.”

Of course, as Austin Daily Herald readers surely know, Obamacare and the Affordable Care Act are the exact same thing. Obamacare is merely a nickname for the Affordable Care Act.

A CNBC poll found that 46 percent of Americans oppose Obamacare but 37 percent oppose the Affordable Care Act.

It’s sad that the disinformation campaigns work. It’s almost as laughable as the people who think the communists and the fascists are on the same side of the political spectrum.
