Police arrest burglary suspect, search home near Racine

A man suspected of burglarizing several homes in Fillmore and Mower Counties was taken into custody Thursday, before police searched a property near Racine for stolen goods.

Police arrested 32-year-old Michael Niemeyer, of Rochester, in Mower County early Thursday morning, according to a press release from the Fillmore County Sheriff’s office. Niemeyer later admitted to police he committed several burglaries in Fillmore and Mower counties, including St. John’s Lutheran School in Wykoff, the First Baptist Church in Spring Valley, and several downtown Spring Valley businesses. according to the release.

Further information led investigators from the Fillmore County Sheriff’s office, the Southeast Minnesota Narcotics and Gang Task Force, and the Mower County/Austin tactical team to search a home in the 10100 area of County Road 8 in rural Spring Valley. During the search, police recovered stolen properties related to the burglaries, according to the release.

Police also arrested 52-year-old Mark Burrington for possession of a controlled substance after police found components of a methamphetamine lab. Burrington may face charges related to manufacturing meth, according to the release.

Charges were forwarded to the Fillmore County Attorney’s office, and Niemeyer remains at the Mower County jail.
