He was born Aug. 5, 1981, in International Falls, Minn., to Pete and Audrey (Fering) Strecker. His family later moved to Austin where he lived and attended school. He was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. Sam loved to sing. He was involved with the Northwestern Singers and enjoyed being a part of the entertainment. Known as the ‘King of Karaoke,’ he entertained many with his charismatic personality and ability to get the crowd involved. If there was a karaoke contest, you could bet Sam was in contention to win. Kelly Clarkson got lucky the year Sam was overlooked by the judges from American Idol. He also enjoyed cooking, shopping, being with his dog Deuce, and anything that involved his friends. Sam always knew how to put smiles on peoples’ faces, young or old, and was unmistakably one of a kind.  He will be greatly missed by friends, family, and all who shared his incredible life.

Survivors include his parents Pete and Audrey Strecker of Austin; his brother Jesse Strecker (Julie Blaha) of Minneapolis; many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
