ST. PAUL — An economic group says Minnesota’s median household income has fallen 18 percent from 2000 to 2010, the steepest decline in the nation.

The income figures were adjusted for inflation.

The analysis was performed by Growth and Justice. The St. Paul-based economic-justice group found that the state’s median income is now about $58,000.

Group President Dane Smith says that’s very close to the national median, which is a concern because Minnesotans are used to being above average in everything.

The group cautions that the state’s prosperity is at stake if gaps between the wealthy and poor continue to widen.
